Janaat Viraj Singh POV
I ran from there; he says he is going to get married. It means he already has someone. This is making me sad. He is not mine from the beginning, just my stupid heart had the hope that he could be mine. That he shattered like a glass. He has someone whom he gonna marry. My dumb head created a delulu, and now my silly heart is hurting.
I don’t even know why I thought he could be mine. He is so handsome, the principal of this college, and I’m a mere student in his college. I accept he helped me in the past, it’s their kindness or maybe empathy. Rich people do that, they help and forget about them. But we, who accepted the help, always have a hope, as maybe he remembered me, maybe I can repay their kindness.
We, girls, are like this; we make our love stories in our heads, but when reality hits, it hurts.
I’m in front of my department, but I don’t want to go inside. I don’t want to start my prisoner life when I’m already sad. It’ll make me feel worse. “Leave, classes can wait.”
Suddenly, someone hugged me. “Lily, don’t squeeze me, I just had breakfast.” She always squeezes me like I’m her soft toy.
Lily, my mom’s best friend's daughter, has light brown hair and skin as white as milk. She got all her russian mom genes, not like me.
“Without me, come on girl, we are soulmates since childhood.” Placing her hand on my cheeks, “Wait a minute, why are you sad?” Lily says.
“No, I...” Words stuck.
“Stop lying, your nose is a little red from it, it’s showing you can cry any moment,” Lily said while fixing my hair.
“I know this is very new for you, a new college after years of skipping. But you’ll face this; it’s good for the future, and I am with you in the same college. I know our courses are different, but I’m just a phone call away from you; you can rant about anything to me.” Lily said, assuring me.
“I knew that you’d be on my side, as always. I’m really grateful to have you around me. You are my only chuddy-buddy friend.” I chuckled after completing my sentence.
“You are so sweet, Janu. Wait, did you buy any gifts?” She was looking at me with a smile. “You deserve a gift, pretty woman, your hard work paid off. My strong, independent woman, you deserve a tour of this beautiful college. You finally hit 100k on social media. Now I can flex, she is my friend, a fashion influencer with 100k followers.”
She is always like that, she gets happier than I and sadder than I. After my mumma left me, I was sad, but she was shattered because she lost her mother two times, once hers and then her godmother, who was my mumma. “I wanna go outside, celebrate my 100k success,”
Lily saw me with a soft expression, “Okay, my lady, as you wish, let me gift you a pretty dress on your achievement. Come, let’s go to the parking.” Her demeanor told me she had a surprise for me. She is the only one I can trust with surprise.
Only a girl understands what another girl wants. Boys suck at surprises.
I was standing corner of the parking, saw Lily coming towards me with a bag. “Here, for my pretty lady, a pretty dress in her favorite color, go change in the washroom, then we will click your pic.”
“We can do these things later.” I try to say no to her.
Lily made me turn, holding me from my shoulders, and started pushing me to the side, where all the restrooms were. I know what kind of dresses she chose, but I don’t want to wear them. Without looking, I can tell the dress will be body-hugging.
“It’s not good to make young boys wait who are ogling on your Instagram with owl eyes.”
The dress was obviously in white, with full sleeves and an off-the-shoulder heart neck. But the problem is it’s body-hugging, and I’m not comfortable with this body-hugging; I’ll look like a stick. I hold the dress with both hands and stretch my arms upwards, “It’s not that bad, it’s fitted till waist, then the skirt is A-shape.
She chose this dress purposely. She wants me to be confident.
For once, Janu, do it for her. You are a strong, independent woman; you got this. After motivating me. I changed and applied my gloss, red gloss.
When I came back after changing, she gave me my flowers, “OMG, you are not exaggerating this?”
“No, you deserve this. Come, I know beautiful spots in this college, where you look like a fairy,” she started dragging me to different places, making me do so many poses. When she got satisfied with the number of pictures, she said, “See, which one you wanna post?” Lily asked me to handle her phone on which she clicks my pictures. We were using her phone because my phone was old. He is in the last stage of his life and can die at any time.

College is so beautiful, I just can’t believe my pics came out these beautiful. “Let’s go to the canteen, it’s not less than a cafe,” said Lily, grabbed my hand, and like a baby, I started following her.
The canteen is packed with folks. Although I avoid going in crowds because you never know if someone will recognise me.
“Ohh! My delulu girl, you are not that famous yet,” my head screams, breaking my fragile heart.
The canteen is huge, with indoor and outdoor seating, crowded but beautiful. “Let’s order something. I’ll take the salad due to my weight gain. What about you?” Lily starts tapping on the menu.
I know who is feeding her this weight bullshit. She wants me to feel confident about my body, but here she is feeling insecure. She shouldn’t feel that way; everybody is different, we all look different with different shapes and complexions. Love yourself the way you expect love.
“You are perfect, all woman wants curves like you, your body type is my dream body.”
“We both will take a sandwich, you should try their sandwiches, they are their specialty. I’ll order some orange juice too. You know, balance our unhealthy sandwich with orange juice.” Lily said and got up to place an order.
Who is going to tell her I already ate her tasty sandwiches? With the principal of this college itself.
After waiting for 10 minutes, our order was on our table. Finding good spots for pictures really drains our energy; within two to three minutes, our plates are empty. “I think you should use me for your nail art business. You do my nails, we will post that picture on my Instagram with you in the tags. Like this, your reach will increase, and your dream of opening a nail salon will come true.”
She nodded, “Great idea, I’m in my final year, if I don’t do that in this upcoming year, Mr. Walia will send me foreign for a master’s, and I really don’t want to leave my home. Your family is also my family, too.
I can’t afford to lose them. I’ll bring the necessary things and paint those pretty nails.”
“Done deal,” I said with a small giggle.
“Let’s go, Janu, before my curfew starts. We will continue our chit-chat on the phone,” Lily said, grabbing the car key from the bag, giving me a quick, squeezing hug. The sun is starting to go down, and it’ll be nighttime when we both reach our home.
I was sitting on my Scotty in the parking. My mind was still upstairs, in his office. He is so handsome, and he looks like him. I opened my phone notes.
List: MY MAN
First, He should have long legs. Pass.
Yes, he has that. He is so tall that when he sits, and I stand then our eye contact can be made.
Second, He should have a Deep Voice. Pass.
Yes, he has that. It was more sexy than him.
Third, He should have a beard. Pass.
Yes, yes, he has that too. Not too long, not too short, just perfectly visible.
Fourth, in the past, he should not have had any girlfriend. But he is going to marry, which means he already has a girlfriend. Then why is he behaving like a gentleman? Maybe he is looking for casual flings. HAWWW, he thought like that about me. I’ll never meet him again. These kind of men shows they are gentlemen, but in reality they are man whore.
FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.
He is a failure on my list. “The sun was setting, so I should move toward home. Otherwise, my cute dad will worry about me.” With that, I started my Scotty, put helmet, and started driving on a clean road. Chandigarh has the best roads in our country.

Viraj Janaat Singh POV
The road of Chandigarh stretched ahead, and trees were passing by, across the car window sun dipped low. I leaned against on driving seat of my Rolls-Royce and familiar surroundings came in front of me. It’s not like I’m here first time, but today's purpose is different.
My car slowed as the colony came into view. Just passed the iron gate of the colony, smoothly and slowly. Unbuckling my seatbelt, I take a deep breath, “cool down, VJ.” I tell myself, looking in the car mirror. I got off and made my way toward the main door.
Roy Resistant.
Her home.
A corner of my mouth lifted barely for a smile. I adjusted my shirt cuff, fixed my collar, and my hand flew to my hair to fix it. I was nervous, never in my life have I felt this nervous, not even when I accepted the Principal designation in our Singh college.
But I didn’t let my thoughts wander too far. I exhaled a deep breath slowly and murmured to myself, “You got this.”
Entering the house, changed my stiff posture to a relaxed one. “VJ,” heard Ruhaan's voice.
He rushed forward, draping his arms around me like he always does. “Finally, you didn’t forget me?”
Ruffling his hair, “How can I forget the little crying boy who just turned young man?” Then I noticed, “Your height has also increased.”
Breaking away from hug, he said, “I’m not tall like you, not yet. But I’ll cross your height and become taller than you.”
“Having confidence is a good thing. For your kind information, I’m 6’4 feet tall.” I said ruffling his hair is messy.
Then, suddenly, Vinod uncle said, “There’s someone you haven’t met yet. Come, dinner is ready. Janu is coming in a minute, too.”
We made our way toward the dining area and sat, just then heard the main door opening sound, “she is here.”
Excited? YES.
Nervous? DEFINITELY.
I had been so captivated by my baby. I was just stretching myself sitting on a chair, “Come on, man, you just saw her 7 hours ago.” My subconscious says.
The door opened. Taking a sharp breath, I composed myself. My eyes were fixed on her; she was removing her heels. Taking in every detail of her appearance, wait, she changed the dress.
The way that dress hugged her, giving the slightest idea of her cleavage, just covering her thigh. I feel I can’t breathe. Heaven, why are you doing this to me? I grab the glass filled with water and gulp it down in one go.
Her dark green orbs meet mine, dark, her eyebrows knit together, lips parted in surprise.
Not just surprised.
She was shocked.
“Hey, Baby, how was your first day in college? Did you make any friends in class?” Vinod uncle asked with a broad smile on his face.
She just tripped near the dining table because her foot got caught under the rug.
“Careful,” a word slipped from my tongue before I noticed. That damn rug.
I never take my eyes from her. She looked up, and her eyes clashed with mine. She hadn’t been thinking; she was just nervous about my sudden arrival.
She took the place of the chair in front of me and looked to the left side, where Vinod uncle and Ruhaan are sitting. We all add the portions of food to our plates.
Avoiding.
“Great, you scared her.” Again, my subconscious spoke.
Vinod uncle scrunched his nose and said, “I wanted to tell you something, I mean it’s a request and best for your future.”
“Sure, go ahead, Dad,” my heaven said without glancing at anyone. She was looking down at her plate. Wondering why I am here?
“You are going to marry VJ.” Vinod uncle said in one breath. The spoon she was holding was dropped into her plate.
The bomb is dropped.
Her face turned to see me with furious eyes. She was angry, beyond angry. What does a girl do when a man whom she met a few hours ago comes with a marriage proposal like a creep? She folded her arms under her chest, started glaring at me. “You already have a girlfriend, why are you here with a marriage proposal. He is a two-timer, Dad. He wants two girls at one time.”
I took a deep breath, composed my voice, “I never had a girlfriend, I didn’t have a plan to have one.”
She is still glaring at me, she points her index finger towards me, “You, you are lying. You himself says you are going to marry.” After she finished, her brows moved; she got that I was talking about her.
Yes, I am going to marry none other but only her.
“What the hack, my best friend is going to be my jiju (brother-in-law),” Ruhaan got up from the chair, with the chair falling backward, and the next moment her arms were around my neck.
She got up from the chair with the speed of lightning. “Have you guys lost your minds, or are you all drunk?” She turned to face her uncle, “ I am just twenty. It is illegal.”
Then she turned towards me, again stretching her arms open, pointing her tiny finger toward me, “You bad man, what do you feed them? You used some kind of drugs on them, so they lost their mind.”
“It is not illegal, Janu, above eighteen, anyone can marry. VJ is my best friend; he can marry you. As your brother am giving my permission.” Ruhaan said this, releasing me from his hug.
That was it. She lost her mind.
She craned her neck to look at the roof, then, huffed, with a sudden movement, my furious Heaven pulls the ruhaan's hair from across the table, “What did you say, permission? Bullshit. If you like him that much, then marry him and never drag me into this.”
Both siblings are crazy.
How can I marry Ruhaan?
Imagine a man marrying a boy?
Yuck!
“Jannat leaves Ruhaan, and everyone takes their place on the chair and eats dinner without uttering a single word,” Uncle said this in a high voice.
“I am not hungry anymore, thanks for the food,” saying that my heaven up climbed the stairs. She also turned, showing two fingers near her eyes, then one finger to me. Like she wants to say, “I’ll see you later.” This is exactly what I want, for she always sees me. Her dark green eyes always crave me.
“Don’t worry about Jannat, I’ll talk to her.” Hearing uncle words gives me some relief.
We three ate dinner, but my mind was upstairs. She should not skip dinner. I didn’t even notice what I was eating. Uncle put something in my plate, and I chewed that without noticing what it was.
Ruhaan's hair is still standing messily because of pulling. My heaven is wild bread; I should be careful around her. I would never offend her in the future.
“Thanks for the dinner, uncle,” I was saying this to my uncle, but my eyes were stuck on the stairs.
Resting his hand on my shoulder, Uncle said, “Don’t worry, beta, I’ll feed her, you know, sandwiches are her weakness, and with their help I’ll persuade her. You are the best man for my daughter. I know that after me, I can trust you. I know she is safe with you; you will protect her. In the past, you already proved yourself; till then, you are around her, she is safe. I’m sure if my Janu can’t stay safe with you, then sure she can’t stay safe with anyone.”
“I am giving you my word, uncle, I will protect her at any cost. Her smile is my priority. I’ll take care of her health and happiness.” I said with a genuine smile.
“Not uncle anymore, call me Dad like Janu and Chiku call me,” Uncle said.
I bend down to touch uncle's feet, “Okay, Dad.” After years, this word Dad comes from my mouth. After my father, only my Uncle deserves that title.
“Are you two not forgetting about me? I also give my approval for the marriage. You would be perfect for our baby, but be careful, her legs and hands never stay in place when she is angry. You already saw the little trailer today.” Ruhaan said.
I am just loving where this conversation is going. While folding both his hands, Ruhaan said, “Are you ready to be beaten by my sister?” He is the first brother who tells her brother-in-law that her sister is going to beat him to death. My heaven is not that violent, did she? I will find that in the future.
“She can slap me, punch me, or even kick me. I’ll bear it all if you allow me to marry your baby sister.” I replied with a smirk.
“Shut up, both of you, stop spreading rumors against my daughter,” Uncle said, pulling out our ears with both hands.
“Sorry,” Ruhaan and I spoke same time.
This is the day I had been waiting for. I can’t even express how happy I am.
“Toh aaj se jiju bulana shuru kr du?” Ruhaan joked.
(Should I start calling you brother-in-law from today onwards?)
This moment is a blessing in my life after years. I just want to freeze time here. But now the main issue is my Heaven.
The moment I saw her in the hospital bed and the way her fingers reacted with mine, that was it! How heart respond to me without even knowing me?
She trusts me in unconsciousness; her body trusts me. Ruhaan's words, my promise to him, the promise to myself, my first vow to her. At that moment, she became my responsibility. From that moment, she belonged to me, and I belonged to her. She can always bet on me; I’ll never let her lose.
She has to say yes; Yes, for our marriage.
I am a man with morals, but for our marriage, I am willing to be immoral.
